Press Release: Hatsune Miku to Perform on The Late Show

International sensation Hatsune Miku, the virtual idol at the forefront of Crypton Future Media‘s vocaloid software, will make her American television debut on The Late Show with David Letterman on CBS on October 8.

Hatsune Miku’s appearance on the nationally televised show will give American audiences a preview of the MIKU EXPO performance awaiting fans at L.A.’s Nokia Theater and New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom later this month. Celebrating the music, imagery, and interactive excitement of Hatsune Miku with back-to-back events in October, MIKU EXPO is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for fans to immerse themselves in the Miku World!

MIKU EXPO recently revealed its Halloween Party Area Map for the L.A. event at Los Angeles Center Studios, including a guide to vendors and limited-edition Halloween-themed merchandise.

Buzz for the New York and L.A. events has continued to build this month, with several fan-based activities and announcements.

Sharing The World” by BIGHEAD feat. Hatsune Miku was released this month as the official theme song for the event.

Streaming anime website Crunchyroll announced a fan video contest and a 30-minute exclusive concert video from MIKU EXPO in Indonesia.

Press Release: Maid Cafe NY to Host Promotional Fundraiser for “Santa Company” Film

Maid Cafe NY will hold a promotional fundraiser event supporting upcoming Christmas themed Japanese animation film “Santa Company” on December 22nd, 2013 from 3pm – 4pm at 150 Centre Street, Downtown, NY. Free to attend and open to the public, “Santa Company” will be introduced through multimedia interviews with cast and production members discussing the production based in Japan.

Free “Santa Company” swag will be available to attendees, as well as autographed illustrations and posters from the film for supporters who donate money toward the “Santa Company” Kickstarter campaign. The event culminates with a world-premiere casting announcement about famous voice actors signing onto the project to perform principle roles.

About the Film, “Santa Company”
Noel is a girl who has just joined the mysterious Company. Santa Company is an international corporation that consists of three departments: Santa Dept., Reindeer Dept. and Gift department. And only once a year, these three departments work together and use their expertise to safely deliver Christmas gifts on Christmas Eve!

It’s told with a touch of romance and action. It also shows how ordinary people with no particular special powers systematize the job of Santa Clauses to make it fitted in the real world, relationships between workers, and this Christmas gifts delivery business’s power of influence and economic effects.

Animator and director Kenji Itoso (who worked with Hayao Miyazaki and Satoshi Kon) has currently raised more than half of $50,000 to finance “Santa Company” through Kickstarter. Funding will be used to create the film as well as produce English and French subtitles.

Bi-Coastal Miku Concerts

Vocaloid Pop Idol Hatsune Miku will celebrate her sixth “birthday” on August 30st with a concert in Yokohama Japan. The next day, August 31st, the concert will be streamed in both New York City and Los Angeles, presented by Live Viewing Japan.  This is your chance to see the world renowned virtual idol at her best.

The concert is called “Hatsune Miku Magical Mirai.”  Vocaloid concerts consist of holographic projects of the Vocaloid with a live band.  The concert is organized by Tokyo MX and Crypton Future Media, Inc., sponsored by SEGA Corp., Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc., and NicoNico.

The NYC showing will be at the Anthology Film Archives from 2pm to 4pm.  The tickets are $20.
The Los Angeles showing is at the Downtown Independent from 11am to 1pm.  Tickets are also $20.

First Maid Cafe in NY Hosts Grand Opening

This Sunday August 18th the first Maid Cafe in New York City, or on the east coast of the USA, finally opens after months a preparation.  To celebrate they are having a big party from 11am to 3:30 with various Jpop performances at their sister restaurant downstairs, Mika Japanese Cuisine & Bar.

Headliner for the event is Reni Mimura.  A Japanese idol from Japan who came to America to spread her own brand of moe pop, without even knowing any English when she came over.  Since then she has met many people who have helped her and made many fans from her monthly shows in NYC and attending conventions.  Songs ranging from sugary sweet to really weird to cabaret music.

Other guests to perform will be the Maids of Maid Cafe NY, fellow Jpop singers Hitomo Hime and  Moe Moe Honey, stand up comedian of all things nerdy Uncle Yo, and Kpop mashuper DJ MASA.  Expect plenty of dancing.  They will be holding a cosplay contest as well.

It is only $5 to get in, but lunch not included.  They will have $5 sushi rolls, curry, and fried noodles.  Fans of Japanese pop culture and music will not want to miss this fun event.

Maid Cafe NY is a theme café, hoping to interest by offering Japanese food, drink and merchandise served by servers dressed in maid outfits in a Japanese pop setting. Food and drink include Japanese curry, various Green Tea sweets, frozen yogurt and Japanese style parfait and crepe. Will also offer occasional live music entertainment.

What is a Maid Café?
Maid cafés are restaurants serving traditional Japanese food and desserts, with a staff of primarily young, cute waitresses and entertainers. In these cafés, waitresses dressed in maid costumes. The first Maid café was established in Tokyo, Japan in 2001 but maid cafés are becoming increasingly popular. They have since expanded overseas. Maid cafés were originally designed primarily to cater to the fantasies of male “otaku,” obsessive fans of anime, manga and video games. However today the maid café phenomenon also attracts couples and female tourists.

2nd Annual New York Funny Songs Fest 2013

NY Funny Songs Fest (NYFSF), NYC’s only comedy music festival, is celebrating its second year after a successful Kickstarter campaign.  The fest is Thursday May 30 through Sunday June 2 at different location in the city.

On Thursday things start off at 6 PM with registration a mixer at the Santos Party House (96 Lafayette at Canal Street).   At 8-9:30 PM the opening showcase with locals Dave Hill, Mindy Raf, Jessica Delfino, Ben Kronberg, Jen Kwok, Summer and Eve, Rob Paravonian, Ben Lerman and others performing followed by a Q&A and meet an greet.   From 9:30-11 PM the out of towners play, Devo Spice (NJ), Jamie Brew (Chicago), Titler (Boston), Steamy Bohemians (Boston), Todd Chappelle (Philadelphia) and more performing with their own Q&A and meet an greet.  The night party hosted by Ben Lerman and  Carolyn Castiglia starts at 11 PM  with special performance by Adira Amram, karaoke, photo booth, drink specials, free food and to be announced guests.  Party ends at 1 AM.  

On Friday, they have several workshops during the day.  At 1:30 PM there is a parody writing workshop lead by the The Parodivas.  At 2:45 PM an original funny song writing workshop and showcase.  Then at 4 PM you can join in a ukulele lesson, song writing workshop, and circle jam.  All three workshops are an hour-long and held at Tammany Hall (152 Orchard Street).

Later that night at 5 PM it is a Happy Hour Mixer at Tammany Hall with pros and fans for free.  Then at 7-8:15 PM (doors open at 6:30) a showcase of different comedic duos and trios will perform,  Mel and ElStuckey & Murray, Squirm and Germ, The Skivvies, and The Parodivas. From 8-10 PM the 50 Funny Songs will have 50 performers of different genres, experience, and instrumentation will each perform for two minutes or less.  Finally from 10:15-12:15 PM (doors at 9:30 PM) four comedy bands will play and in between acts stand-ups will perform funny songs with the bands for the first time.  Featuring comedy bands Kill The Band, The BTK Band, Bad Teenage Moustache, My Left Tit, Liam McEneaney and more. Same location for each events.

Plus from 9-10 PM at (UCB East, 153 East 3 Street) they are holding a showcase starring Summer and Eve with special guests.  Show is $10 at the door and doors open at 8:30 PM.

Moving on to Saturday.  At the Living Room (154 Ludlow Street) from 1-3 PM a Comedy Industry Panel with pros talking about becoming a full-time musician or comedian.  From 4-5 PM music pros will work with kids to create their own funny songs and then the kids get to perform their new song for everyone.  5-6 PM is a discussion on marketing your music and self to the world.  

Over at Tammany Hall from 6-8 PM is a screening of comedy music videos by Up & Down Theater, Insane Ian, Carolyn Castiglia (CKC) & Beena Steena, Stuckey & Murray, Rob Paravonian and more with live performances by Myq & Micah.   Then from 8-10 PM it is A Night of Dirty Songs with Jessica Delfino, Red Peters, Ben Lerman, My Left Tit, burlesque beauty Ms. Tina Cione and others performing “R” rated material.

For late night events they have two.  One at UCB East from 11:30-12:30 PM with a comedy rap battle.  five of NYC’s comedians and one audience volunteer with compete in a freestyle rap battle to the death (well not actual death).  Six rounds of one-on-one rap battles decided by the audience.  Doors at 11 PM and $5 at the door. Meanwhile over at Joe’s Pub (425 Lafayette Street) at the same time is Rob Contrell CD Release Party and NYFSF Wrap Party.  “Big Rob” releases his first comedy rap CD “Dreams Never Die” and the first 25 entries get a free copy.  DJ TigerVsCobra, Carolyn Castiglia and other special guests will be there.  Then the wrap party with a hip hop, rap, and r&b comedy music extravaganza with a chance to take the mic your self and win prizes.  Tickets are $12 for the event.

Finally Sunday.  Back at The Living Room as part of DayLife, a three block special event of food and fashion vendors, NYFSF people will be taking the stage for a last chance to see them perform.  Also they will a pastrami eating contest, yoga classes, DJ lessons, badminton, face painting, and other events.  It goes from 1-5 PM and is free.

Then a field trip to see Weird Al perform outside of the city with fellow Al fans and a pre-show gift bag.  Everyone is to meet up at 5 PM at Patrick Conway’s Pub (40 E. 43rd Street) and then travel by train to the concert.  Tickets for this event are $75 which gets you a ticket to the show, train ticket, and the gift bag.  Buy early for this.

First Annual NY Funny Songs Fest

A new music festival is coming to New Your City.  The First Annual New York Funny Songs Fest will be 4 days from June 7-10 at assorted venues in Lower East Side of Manhattan.

The event has been organized by comedy musician Jessica Delfino and will feature over 50 other comedy musicians. Such as Rob Paravonian, Jen Kwok, Ben Lerman, Myq Kaplan and Micah Sherman (Myq and Micah), Devo Spice, Soce The Elemental Wizard, Mindy Raf, Carolyn Castiglia, Cock Lorge, David Cope, Killy Dwyer, Barbara Holm, Camille Harris, and comedy videos by Adira Amramand Stuckey & Murray and Adira Amram.  They will tell jokes and perform on everything from guitar to ukulele to harp to rape whistles and more.

The Lower East Side has been a place for comedy musical performance for years and was chosen as the place for the festival.  Shows will be at Tammy Hall, Lolita Bar, Casa Mezcal, The Dressing Room, The Upstairs Bar, and more.

Activities include an opening night party, after parties featuring comedy music videos,  music showcases, group challenge about writing songs about The Anarchists Cookbook, A Night of Dirty Songs, music showcase of 50 musicians playing a short song, karaoke, comedy music industry panel, Comedy Music Awards, and a closing party.

If you want to spend a weekend in New York laughing, this sounds like it.
