The Troubleshooters of Nerdcore

The Troubleshooters is a project from nerdcore artists int80 of Dual Core and kHill from Thought Criminals.  They have released an EP, Lead Time, for all to enjoy.

It is only four tracks, but it is all they need to rock it so hard.  I just feel this is the best that rap can get and each song shows off what these guys can do.  I will say it is not heavy on the nerdy lyrics, more of a thing for computer fans, but still good for all.

c64, the other half of Dual Core, helps out on turntable.  Mixing by cecilnick of Autocorrect and cover art by Maria Morales.

Get the EP for only $5.

“The TroubleShooters started like all other music projects for me: Emails are exchanged, beats are uploaded, lyrics are written, etc. But then we took a slightly different approach of hopping on Hangouts to discuss song ideas and composition. We also simultaneously wrote lyrics in shared docs so that we could play off the other person’s parts. This gave TroubleShooters a more cohesive feel in creating the music. To complete the project, I flew to Mikal’s house in the mountains of North Carolina and we spent hours in his frigid basement recording and creating new songs. There I was wearing all my layers of clothes from my suitcase, clutching my laptop’s power supply trying to stay warm; while Mikal was in a t-shirt and khakis drinking a Juan Collins like he was on vacation. Truly, this EP nearly drove me to insanity.” -int80

“There was a point one night after we had finished tracking vocals that we decided to play Tecmo Bowl for NES. I was incredibly hammered and never figured out how to pass and 80 beat me… his score was in excess of 100 points and mine was zero.” -kHill

Two Geek Musicians From Two Sides of the Planet Planning to Take Over the World in Song

Meri Amber (Geek Pop artist from Australia) and Kraken Not Stirred (Nerd Rock artist from Canada) play the role of two brains in tanks scheming to take over the world with love or fear respectively, in song. The song features not only the performances of the two geek musicians but also Kraken Not Stirred’s music production and guitar solo. The music video features not only their performances but also comic-style art and video editing by Meri Amber.
You can watch the newly released video here.

Another ear worm from Meri Amber, who provides her usual upbeat style of singing.  This is my first hearing Kraken Not Stirred but I have to say on this he bring both good rapping and guitar riffs.  The music video is all right, would have been more interesting if they had live action brains in the jar instead of just animated ones.
Meri Amber
Meri Amber is a Geek Pop artist from Australia who tours around and performs at many conventions in both Australia and, recently, New Zealand. She has released a number of CDs including the Super EP (songs inspired by ninjas, superpowers, YouTube etc.), her Doctor Who themed album, Pop Goes The TARDIS (songs inspired by Doctor Who), and her 90s themed album, Retro Sherbet (songs inspired by Tamagotchis, Pokémon, Xena etc.). Her next upcoming concert is at Sugar City Con in Mackay (Queensland, Australia).
Kraken Not Stirred
Kraken Not Stirred (otherwise known as Mike Bryant) is an Nerd Rock artist from Canada. Mat Mania

Mega Ran has covered many different topics in his music, from comic books to movies to education and a whole lot of video games.  His next album is about another of his favorite things, professional wrestling and by wrestling I mean WWE, formerly WWF.  The album is called Mat Mania, the same name as his podcast about wrestling.  It will be out on March 31st the same week of Wrestlemania in Dallas, Texas.

He teams up with producer Lynx Kinetic to do remixes on seven entrance themes and wrestlers.

Several tracks have already been released for streaming and downloading to enjoy.  The previews have been coming out each Monday (called Monday Night Ran), so the next one is tomorrow.

The album has tracks on legends like Macho Man Randy Savage and Jack The Snake Roberts to newer wrestlers like the New Day and Bray Wyatt.  Of the tracks released so far my two favorites are New Day Raps and Glass Broken.  New Day Raps is a fun party song about the most fun tag team in WWE today.  A remix by Matty Owens is also out.  Glass Broken is more of a song to pump you up for a fight about Stone Cold Steve Austin , that was released on 3/16 this year.

You can check out the new tracks on Rolling Stones, What Culture, or at Soundcloud.

Fans of wrestling and Mega Ran are both going to want to pick up this free album.

Mega Ran’s podcast of the same name has bi-weekly episodes dedicated to classic and current moments in pro wrestling.

Some Nerdy Music Videos

I have some recent music videos from nerdy artists to share with everyone.  Check the out and enjoy.

She’s Blue (‘I’m Blue’ by Eiffel 65 Parody) Music Video by Meri Amber  from her album “Pop goes The TARDIS.”  While clothed in self-made TARDIS dresses she sings about the emotions of the TARDIS.  Fun scenes include looking lovely at pictures of different Doctors and dancing with random people on the street holding TARDIS protest signs.

She also has a video for her song I XOX U, a love song written in emojis and txt talk.

The Hammer Birds, a French/Chinese band of a classical trained pianist and a multi-instrumental electro DJ, have a video out of them doing a cover of the Daft Punk song Aerodynamic using piano, bass, launchpad, and other random objects to create music.  Video is just clips of them playing.  Aerodynamic is one of my favorite Daft Punk songs and this holds up against the original in my opinion.

The also have a cover of Skrillex’s song Bangarang done acoustically.  Shot in the same style as their other video.

ILL SEER is a rapper/pastor with a PhD and his first full-length video is Fabricated Spaceman.  A deep song with a good flow shot in a laundry mat interspersed with clips from animation and old films.  Produced by Axwax of Delegates of Culture, directed and edited by Danny Alexander.  Not sure what it is about, but fun to listen to.

And then there is Mega Ran’s latest video, Laughin At Ya a track off of his album RNDM.  It is an autobiographical song about his music, video games, and life, while looking like the Joker.  Directed by Jaron Ikner.  If you need a song about doing what you love, this is a good one for you.

RNDM Is Out and Final Tour of The Year

Random (Mega Ran) has released his latest album, RNDM, too much fanfare.  It début #2 in the Mountain time zone on Billboard’s Indy chart.

The album features “Mighty”, the ending credits to the anticipated game “Mighty No. 9.”

They say you can’t go forward without going back. So to move to the future, Mega Ran had to go back to the beginning to say thank you, then to say goodbye. Ran’s 2015 full length album channels the soul of “The Call,” the nostalgia of “Forever Famicom” and blasts into the future with new age production and concepts, while exploring the concept of finding one’s true self through deep soul-searching and experimentation.

Mega Ran calls this “the album of my life.” Hip Hop, pop, electronica and funk/soul meet at the crossroads of introspective, hilarious and heartwarming songs featuring outstanding artists such as Kool Keith, Open Mike Eagle, MURS, Joell Ortiz and more.

The album features appearances from D&D Sluggers, Doctor Awkward, Edy Blu, Elle Winston, Richie Branson, RoQy TyRaiD, Storyville, and Wordburglar.  With beats from Alex Minor, DJ Big Serg, DJ DN3, K-Murdock, Lazerbeak of Doomtree, Lost Perceptions, Michiru Yamane (composer of Castlevania series), RND1, Tunesmith, and others.

You can get the album via download, cassette, vinyl, CD/Shirt bundle, NES cartridge of the album’s instrumentals, or as the Kickstart version of the album.  You can also buy a pair of RNDM socks, only 50 pairs exist.

You can pick it up a copy of the album on iTunes, Bandcamp (with bonus lyric booklet and NES files), Google Play (with bonus track), and Underground Hip-Hop for signed CDS.

He is also on his last tour of the year before he gets married.  He is touring with DJ Organic, SkyBlew, and EyeQ.   So check to see if any of the dates are near you.

Press Release: Alpha Riff’s Birthday Celebration: Everything is Free

Every year, Alpha Riff does something special for the people who have supported him in his artistic endeavors and 2015 will be no different. To celebrate adding another year to his age, all paid content on Alpha Riff’s Bandcamp site will be free for 24 hours. Whether it’s From Beta to Alpha Riff, his first LP; VI: Final Fantasy VI Tribute, the 3 track EP he released to celebrate Final Fantasy VI turning 20 in the US; or Digital Champions: Migdal Bavel, his brand new sci-fi/cyberpunk laced Hip-Hopera, it will be a free download as many times as you’d like for 24 hours. Each download includes tons of extras, including ringtones, wallpapers, videos, and more.

From Beta to Alpha Riff was Alpha Riff’s debut LP. Released on May 31, 2013, From Beta to Alpha Riff tells the story of Alpha Riff facing his inner turmoil on a quest to retrieve his Glass Heart, while his rival, Beta Riff, tries to thwart him. This 31 track LP features 20 musical tracks, 11 narration, and a host of amazing features such as MC Ohm-I, 1-UP, Beefy, LMC, Crystal Hart of Undone, Force of Will, MZ, and Brad Ward. His breakout single, Superhero Swag, as well as the PAX Prime favorite, Black Holes Just Mean I Love You in Space Jargon, show off Alpha Riff’s lyrical finesse and broad topic range.

VI: Final Fantasy VI Tribute was Alpha Riff’s debut instrumental only EP. Released on October 20, 2014, VI: Final Fantasy VI Tribute features reimagined themes of three of Alpha Riff’s favorite characters from the game: Locke, Cyan, and Shadow. Having spent untold hours playing FFVI, studying its characters and stories, and listening to the original soundtrack, Alpha Riff lovingly crafted three songs to reflect what the characters mean to him. It was featured as the background music for Dr. Vern’s October 28, 2014 episode of The Nerd Groove on Nerdy.FM and credited as one of the best reinterpretations of Final Fantasy VI music to date.

Digital Champions: Migdal Bavel is Alpha Riff’s newest LP. The 23 track Hip-Hopera tells the story of a cybernetic bounty hunter, his A.I. partner, and their friends and foes. Coming off the back of a very successful IndieGoGo campaign, ending at 158% completion, the album spawned a community wide movement called the Digital Champions Consortium, where fans and creators alike could add to the story, the world, and the lore. Already, trading cards, comic books, and mobile games have been released or begun development.

On May 18th, everyone will be able to download these and other digital content for free. For those wants something physical, use the code “birthday” at checkout to receive 50% off your purchase. Grab a physical copy of Digital Champions: Migdal Bavel and From Beta to Alpha Riff for only $5 a piece or the new Digital Champions: Migdal Bavel poster, designed by Twill Distilled, for only $2.50!
