Top 10 D&D Music List To roll THAC0 To

Dungeons and Dragons is a staple of nerds and geeks everywhere.  Playing it has been the standard to which nerds measure each other.  In has helped shaped all other RPGs since then, either trying to be like it or trying to not be like it.  So I give you a list of music inspired by this classic game.

1. No More Kings and their song Critical Hit is a funky tune about playing the game and rolling double damage.

2. Uncle Lumpy and the Salmon Moose do a little parody of Frosty called  Dungeons and Dragons, explaining the D&D to his nephew.  I am not sure if this also counts as holiday song.

3. Never Split the Party by Emerald Rose teaches us some important rules about what to do when you are dungeon crawling.

4. Insane Ian takes a break from doing songs about video games to cover table top gaming with  Run This Game assisted by Devo Spice and The Stacey

5. 3d6 gives us Damage.  Nerd punk song that lets you know, if you did not already know, where the band’s name comes from.

6. Natural 20s by Dual Core is chocked full of both references to D&D and other nerdcore rappers.  Great for fans of both.

7. A Band of Orcs is a heavy mithril band, and since I do not care for heavy metal I have not really listen to their music, but everything written about them tells me they belong on here.  The band hails from Hirntodia, till summoned by some teens playing a game, and here they learned to harness the power of metal to lay waste to all.

8. More nerdcore with Dice Roll Your Hearts by Alpha Riff.  A love song for those who love both Magic: The Gathering and Dungeon and Dragons.

9. This Fantasy World by The Doubleclicks is another love song about love over the gaming table.  Though it gets a little offensive.

10. Mikey Mason gives us two great D&D songs Best Game Ever and Summer of 83.  One about player killing and the other about learning the game.

Honorable Mention goes to A Cloak of Elvenkind by alternative rock band Marcy Playground.  I loved this song, the album it comes from, so much in high school.

Well till next time.

LeetStreet Boys Music Video Announced

The otaku band LeetStreet Boys recently announced the up coming release of their latest animated music video.  The video is “Imaginary Boys” from their recent L3g3nds album.  This will be their 5th music video since the band’s first release and hit Yuri The Only One in 2008.

LeetStreet Boys strives for a sound reminiscent of anime and video game soundtracks with their own style with lyrics about otaku dating, humor, and as many anime/video game/internet references that they can make.  They have released three albums, host their own webcomic, helped with soundtracks for games, and have worked in a range of media.

The video will premiere at this year’s Otakon in Baltimore, MD on August 10th, 2013 during Otakon’s fan parody block.  The block will be showing fan submitted and created parodies, trailers, shorts, live action fan films, and fan dubs on a big screen for everyone on Saturday night.  The music video will be shown at 10pm   It will be put up on YouTube the following weekend.

LeetStreet hired quality animators for this video.  They are saying that this is the best video the band has put out yet and will take the band to “the next level.”  I am looking forward to see what makes this video so special.  I have enjoyed LeetStreet’s music in the past.  I find it both fun and easy to listen too, if with a bit of nonsensical lyrics.

Main Stage Acts for PAX This Year

Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) the largest video game focus convention out there.  From the guys who created the Penny Arcade webcomic and Child’s Play charity.   It is August 30 – September 2, Labor Day weekend, in Seattle as always.

Music has been a big part of PAX since the beginning in 2004 when they had the Minibosses and MC Frontalot.  It was at PAX that nerdcore was given a stage to take off.

This year’s music acts are a mix of new faces and regulars.  PAX’s rapper laurate MC Frontalot and nerdcore group Super-Commuter will be back again along with Mega Ran and Adam Warrock.  The rock band with a Mega Man oprea Protomen return for another year.  The comedy duo of the Doubleclicks makes it to the main stage this year.  Acoustic guitar duo Super Guitar Bros appear for the first time on main stage.  Hideo a theatrical concert group who perform music from video games and anime.  Bit Brigade video game cover band/speed run performers around out the main stage.

With the con being four days long they are going to have three straight days of concerts for all the fans.  Schedules have not been released yet, but I do know  Mega Ran will be playing on Friday with K-Murdock and a live band.  Bit Brigade and the Protomen are both on Friday.  On Saturday Frontalot is performing.

Now like previous years PAX has sold out already.  Now do not panic too much just yet.  There are still ways to get in.  Legal ways at that.  Become a volunteer, enforcers, panelist, or something like that.  Personally I do not know to much on the subject, but I am a sure you can find out more with a quick search.

News From The FuMP

First big news from the Funny Music Project (FuMP), is the announcement of FuMPFest for 2014.  Inspired by the recent LukeSkiCon, they have decided to make the idea of a FuMP music festival a reality.

So far they are in the very early stages of planning, like so early the have not picked the hotel to hold the event at yet.  It will be in the Chicago area though, so if you have any suggestions they would like to know.    They are planning concerts, panels, funny music related activities, and any other fun things they can think of.

Pre-registration for the event is set at $35, at door price will be $40.

——————————————————————————————–

A tribute album to Luke Ski and his work has been released, a combined effort of the FuMP artists.

Worst Tribute Ever is two disc long with Worm Quarter, Devo Spice, Insane Ian, Flat 29, TV’s Kyle, Consortium of Genius, Carrie Dahlby, and more doing covers and re-imaginings of various Luke Ski songs from all parts of his career with an intro Dr. Demento.  The album is available at Luke Ski’s store for just $15 plus shipping or $9.99 as a download.

——————————————————————————————–
And finally, Nuclear Bubble Wrap has launched a Kickstarter for their next album.

Nuclear Bubble Wrap is indie rock band who does comedic songs from Nashville, TN.  they are working on their second studio album, Psycho Delicacy.  They have finished writing it and now want to mix their songs at a studio, have it professionally mastered, and produce a physical CD.  They are estimating a need of 40 hours studio based on previous experience.  They are looking at a November release date.

If successfully funded all backers will get to see one of the band doing a performance of a Disney classic while wearing pretty clothes and all backers will also get a monthly update on the progress.

So far (as of this writing) they have $1,175 of their pledge $3,300.  The Kickstarter goes till August 3.  Rewards start at $10 for a digital download of the album.  Other rewards are physical copy of the album, invite to private streamed concert over the internet, demos of new songs, name added to the album’s booklet, digital download of their entire discography, get drawn into an animated music video, a song written on subject you like, private concert up to an hour away from Nashville (unless you pay for travel), or get a chance to perform with the band.

Nice chance to get some music from a very unique sounding band.
